Hope House-Shiro Meda

The Shiro Meda area of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia is one of the poorest and most densely populated parts of the city. There are thousands of children, but no daycare centers and only one preschool.

Many women who live in the community are unemployed because they lack training and child care. Others earn barely enough to feed their families by collecting and selling fuel wood, work that is dangerous and physically demanding.

We want to change that!

We take a holistic approach. By combining quality early childhood education and daycare with capacity building and income development programs for mothers, we create a synergy and amazing things happen!

Imagine a place where children 6 months to 6 years receive quality education and care in a safe, nurturing environment - a place where they are fed two meals a day, given clean clothes, and receive regular screenings by a physician. Imagine if this place also provides capacity building, support groups and income development programs for their mothers.

That place is Hope House!

Connected in Hope has rented a beautiful new compound, and now we are ready to purchase supplies and hire teachers. But we need your help!
